چکیده

Objective. To determine the effect of off the self foot orthoses in the treatment of idiopathic plantar fasciitis. Methods. Thirty-four subjects with a clinical diagnosis of plantar fasciitis were evaluated using isotopic bone scan, ultrasound and physical examination as a baseline measure. A Foot Function Index (FFI), standardized orthopedic foot and ankle joint measures plus a navicular drop test were used to evaluate each patient’s physical baseline parameters at the being of the study. FFI and ultrasound were then repeated at 12 weeks post treatment. Plantar fascia thickness of less than 3mm was used as a definition of normal. Body mass index was also calculated for all subjects. After diagnosis of plantar fasciitis with the above techniques the subjects were issued with a pair of “off the shelf” arch supports (VASYLI devices). The subjects were asked to wear the orthoses for a three-month period (12 week period) and were then re-evaluated. Results. A significant (p < 0.05) reduction in all FFI scores was observed with over 90% of patients showing significant or total relief of plantar fasciitis symptoms. A direct correlation (p < 0.001) was found between increased thickness of the plantar fasciae in the right foot only with increased BMI and body weight. However, no correlation was seen between increased foot flattening and plantar fascia thickness or level of pain, disability or disability as defined by the FFI. This paper represents one part of a larger study entitled: “ Local corticosteriod injection therapy in plantar fasciitis: a randomized controlled trial”

Effectiveness of foot orthoses to treat plantar fasciitis: a randomized trial.

BACKGROUND Plantar fasciitis is one of the most common foot complaints. It is often treated with foot orthoses; however, studies of the effects of orthoses are generally of poor quality, and to our knowledge, no trials have investigated long-term effectiveness. The aim of this trial was to evaluate the short- and long-term effectiveness of foot orthoses in the treatment of plantar fasciitis. ...

Plantar fasciitis – to jab or to support? A systematic review of the current best evidence

BACKGROUND Plantar fasciitis is a common condition routinely managed by podiatrists in the community and is widely treated conservatively. Two commonly used treatments for plantar fasciitis are customized functional foot orthoses and corticosteroid injections. While common to clinical practice, the evidence base underpinning these treatment strategies is unknown. Therefore, the aim of this syst...

Evaluation of combined prescription of rocker sole shoes and custom-made foot orthoses for the treatment of plantar fasciitis.

BACKGROUND It is a routine practice to prescribe a combination of rocker shoes and custom-made foot orthoses for patients with plantar fasciitis. Recently, there has been a debate on this practice, and studies have shown that the individual prescription of rocker shoes or custom-made foot orthoses is effective in treating plantar fasciitis. The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare the ...

The effects of Foot Orthoses on Pain Management of People with Plantar Fasciitis

Introduction: Plantar fasciitis is the most common cause of plantar heel pain, accounting for almost 15% of all foot-related complaints. Despite the high prevalence of plantar fasciitis, information about the effectiveness of different orthoses is still scarce. This study was aimed to compare the effectiveness of u...
